Federal Court: the continuing dispute over the identity of the party that nominates judges

Baghdad-Al-Sharqiya, October 26: Differences continued between the political blocs regarding the Federal Court Law, especially regarding the third paragraph of the draft law amendment on the mechanism for selecting and voting on members of the court and the role of the jurists in it.
Representative sources in the Parliamentary Legal Committee said that the political forces had reached common points regarding amending the Federal Court Law, and that the committee was waiting for the proposals of the blocks to proceed with reading the law as a second reading.
Members of the committee described the Federal Court’s law as the backbone of all Iraqi laws, as it is responsible for constitutional problems, interpreting laws and approving election results, at a time when deputies confirm that no elections can take place before the Federal Court’s legislation is completed.
