Saudi Arabia -ALSHARQIYA March 11: The mission of the Tourism and Antiquities Department at the University of Hail, Saudi Arabia, announced, on Tuesday, that it had found a gold dinar dating back to the era of the Abbasid Caliph Harun al-Rashid, and it is dated 180 AH, meaning that it is more than 1,200 years old.
The dinar, which was found in the ancient city of "Faid", weighs about four grams, according to a university statement.
Muhammad al-Shehri, Dean of the College of Letters and Arts, said that he wrote on the face of the dinar in the center in simple and prominent Kufic script the phrase: “There is no god but God alone and has no partner.” With guidance and the religion of truth, to show it to the whole religion. "
The head of the Tourism and Antiquities Department, Abdullah Al-Omran, explained that on the reverse side of the dinar he wrote the name Jaafar, most likely the minister Jaafar bin Yahya al-Barmaki, the minister of Harun al-Rashid.
The importance of the dinar, according to the archeology professor in the department, Muhammad al-Hajj, is that it belongs to the most important successors of the Abbasid state, who ruled during the period between 170 and 193 AH.
