Reuters: Pro-Iranian groups expand their arsenals in Iraq

Baghdad-ALsharqiya, April 17: Reuters quoted Iraqi security and government officials as saying that the series of attacks this week illustrated the increasingly dangerous entanglement of local and regional rivalries facing the country's security before the elections. Officials say the violence appears to be linked to militant groups seeking to help Iran confront its rivals in a power struggle across the Middle East, as well as mounting tension at home ahead of the October elections. Reuters says that these armed groups are expanding their arsenal, which they are preparing to deploy in the face of US forces stationed in the country, and officials said that the rivalry between Iran and the United States is still the biggest factor in instability despite the departure of former President Donald Trump and new talks between world powers on Iran's nuclear program.
